Homework for Week of 10/5

Dear Class,
A reminder of the rule:  assume ALWAYS that there is a problem set unless I say otherwise.  (I don’t see how it is AT ALL intuitive that there would NOT be one due on the day FOLLOWING a test.)  So, needless to say, Lesson 15 is due tomorrow, Lesson 16 is due Wednesday, Lesson 17 is due Thursday, and Lesson 18 is due Friday.  Also, a note on showing up on time and talking during class.  I feel like some of you are taking my class as a joke and just sort of breezing by, content to receive solid C’s on problem sets while turning in sloppy work and being inattentive during class.  You do yourselves an injustice by doing this; Math is SEVERELY important in life for the thinking skills it fosters and for the fact that grappling with ideas in the twistings of the human mind is in and of itself a beautiful work and that which separates man from beast.  Let alone the fact that ALL standardized tests (CAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE) require Math.  WHY?  Because those who can think logically will be more effective in whatever field they choose.  It is they who will be the leaders and the ones able to juggle a million things at once while keeping a cool head and a keen eye.  You would be AMAZED at how fresh dormant mathematical neural muscle memory stays WHEN IT IS LEARNED WELL.  The sooner you learn these skills the more successful you will be both now and in the future.

Just sayin’…
Mr. Lewis
