All Saint’s Day

October 27, 2009 | Leave a Comment

This Friday we will be celebrating All Saints’ Day.  All students need to bring their Saint costumes to school.  The students may change into their Saint costumes at 12:45.  We will begin our parade of saints over to St. Stephen’s at 1:30.  We will have prizes for best costume announced at the end of our celebration.  After the introduction of the Saints, we will proceed back to the cafeteria.  For those of you who are new, we will have the cafeteria set up in a carnival type fashion with the older students helping with stations.  Each station consist of a game and candy given out as a participatory prize.

There will be a station called  Purgatory…any student may pay 50 cents and send any person to Purgatory.  The person sent to Purgatory must pay 50 cents to get out.

Also, please remember to bring non-perishable assigned items to school tomorrow, and leave the items with Mayra.  All food items need to be brought in on Friday morning.

Latin Homework for week of 10/26

October 26, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Dear class,
Now that we have the trenches prepared, we are going to rigorously learn the concepts of Latin and take the thrilling plunge into the abyss of this most sublime, subtle, and beautiful of foreign languages.  Be prepared for the quiz on Wednesday.  Besides testing the forms of “esse,” it will test your ability to use the knowledge already acquired and put it into play.  Show me what you’ve got.  They aren’t extraordinarily difficult sentences and the word order is easy.  It’s only testing the vocabulary and elementary syntactical constructions.
As I mentioned in class, Latin is a cumulative language, so you are responsible from now on in any Latin course you take for any material covered ever.  This behooves you to acquire a deep comprehension, apprehension, love, and passion for the language, and for language in general, which, after all, separates us from the beasts.  The rest of the week will be learning the theory of the Latin verb and, as always, ever widening our vocabulary.

Thanks,
Mr. Lewis

Thanks,
Mr. Lewis

Pre-Cal homework for week of 10/26

October 26, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Dear Class,
Keep up the good work.  The first quarter, which was a review of Algebra 2, went very well for all, so I now look forward to plunging into the foundations for the discipline of Calculus.  Please remember from now on to read through every lesson and to work the problems out on your own.  This will challenge both you and me to even greater levels of preparation and drilling so that the concepts are fully apprehended and thoroughly synthesized.  Please do 29 for Tuesday, 30 for Wednesday, 31 for Thursday, 32 for Friday, on which day we will have our next test.

Thanks,

Mr. Lewis
