Religion Quiz: Chapters 18, 19, 20 and Patron Saint of First Communicants

The night before Jesus died he and his 12 apostles celebrated the Jewish feast, Passover.  Passover is a holy feast that honors the memory of the time God saved Moses and his Chosen people from slavery in Egypt.

At the Last Supper Jesus took the bead, blessed it and broke it, and gave it to His Disciples saying, “This is My Body, which will be given up for you”.  Then he took the wine and said, “This is the cup of My Blood, the new and everlasting Covenant.  It will be shed for you, and for all, so that sins may be forgiven”.  The bread and wine were turned into the Body and Blood of Jesus with these words.

The apostles were the first ones to receive Holy Communion.  When Jesus said to the Apostles, “Do this in memory of Me” he gave them the power to change the bread and wine into His Body and Blood.

After the Last Supper, Jesus and His Apostles went to the Garden of Olives to pray.  Jesus was betrayed by His Apostle Judas.

Jesus offered Himself up on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins.  Jesus’ sacrifice was the most perfect and true gift.  He redeemed the world through His death.  His death opened the Father’s heart and the gates of Heaven.

On Good Friday we remember Jesus’ death on Calvary.

There will be a separate quiz on the Stations  later in March.

The Stations of the Cross:

1.  Jesus is condemned to death.

2.  Jesus carries His cross.

3.  Jesus falls the first time.

4.  Jesus meets His Mother.

5.  Jesus is helped by Simon.

6.  Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.

7.  Jesus falls a second time.

8.  Jesus speaks to the women.

9.  Jesus falls a third time.

10.  Jesus is stripped of His clothes.

11.  Jesus is nailed to the Cross.

12.  Jesus dies on the Cross.

13.  Jesus is taken down from the Cross.

14.  Jesus is placed in the tomb.

Patron Saint of First Communicants

Who gave Donna Castora a blessing in her dream?  Fr. Dominic de Guzman

Why does Imelda think it is good to help people?  She thinks it is good to help people because God is living in them and when we help the poor and the sick we are really helping him.

On Ismelda’s fifth birthday she realizes that she is a tabernacle because God has been inside her ever since she was Baptized.

What one last gift does Imelda want for her birthday?  Why can’t she have it?  She wants to receive Holy Communion.  She can’t receive Holy Communion until her 14th birthday.

What gift does her mother give her that she likes best of all?  Her mother gives her a rosary.  The beads are made out of pearls and the cross is gold.

For the Quiz, we will be reviewing the Act of Contrition and it’s meaning.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You.  I detest all my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because they offend You, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all of my love.  I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life.  Amen.

Heartily means with all of your heart.

Offended means to be hurt by.

Detest means to be ashamed of.

Just means fair.

Punishments mean penalties.

Deserving means ought to have.

Firmly means strongly.

Resolve means to do better.

Grace means a share in God’s own life.

Confess means to tell all.

Penance means to make up for a sin by doing something good.

Amend means to do better.

———————————

God is like the father in the story of the Prodigal Son.

Sin is such a sad thing because when we sin we lose God’s life of grace within us.

God always forgives us if we are sorry.

On Thursday, there will be a grammar test over verbs.  We have spent a lot of time on the verb chapter in our English book, and there is a good amount of information that should be reviewed before the test.  We will review a little each day leading up to the test, but to ensure that the students understand the material and do well on the test, they ought to take a little time to study each night.

Monday - study words; write sentences using the first 5 words from Wordly Wise 17; correct missed spelling words

Tuesday - study words; write sentences using the next 5 words from WW

Wednesday - study words; write sentences using the last 5 words from WW; study for tomorrow’s test over verbs

Thursday - prepare for spelling and vocabulary tests

Friday  - no homework

Students will also be writing and revising drafts of their book report on Beorn the Proud and writing final drafts of the personal narrative.
